ABOUT

Welcome to Deep in the Meadow, a literate semi-AU Warrior cats roleplay site with a 200 word minimum. DitM features a sandbox play style, a stat system for character development, staff-run NPC accounts for events and encounters, and an overarching political landscape to help structure characters and interactions. Territories are refreshed, but will remain familiar to Warriors RPers. Play as a member of the four Clans or as a Clanless cat - and enjoy!

SITE NEWS

UPDATES - 01/19/18 An activity check is up here. It will run until Tuesday the 30th of January.

UPDATES - 01/17/18 In light of our near every-clan-wide ban/discouragement on apprentices staff wanted to address a few matters. We all know and can relate to the fact that training threads can get boring quickly, but we want to remind users that they don’t need to be the same old things over and over and over again; training threads can be fun, and the concepts that apply to being a warrior can be presented in fun and new ways. Linked are some threads that staff have themselves participated in that demonstrate a wide variety of different directions to tackle training threads from that range from puzzle solving, critical thinking, assassination attempts, games, and even role playing (patrols and the like can count as training threads too). 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. If you want to request a flash event you can ask a staff member or purchase one in the shop, and if you need help brainstorming ideas ask on our discord—we’re a collection of creative folk and we can certainly help one another out. In keeping training threads interesting and fun we hope to get more people signing up to do mentor.

In the same stroke we staff have also noticed a trend in that some sign their apprentices up for mentors, ask for training threads, but then never respond to them (or take months), and in the end end up purchasing apprentice passes for their apprentices to get their names on time. Going forward staff will request you skip signing up for a mentor (you can npc one instead) and just purchase the apprentice pass to save desperately needed mentors for those who will participate and complete training threads so we aren’t wasting mentors/time.

UPDATES - 01/16/18 Starvation Notices have officially gone out in ThunderClan. To prevent more, and to prevent those who have received them from worsening, get your cats out in patrols and hunting! WindClan, not far behind ThunderClan, is officially on notice of starvation, too. Don't be like ThunderClan and put off hunting threads until it's too late.

UPDATES - 01/10/18 Staff has made a slight rule change. You can find this change noted on Rule #17 on the rule sheet, and explained in more depth on the bio guide (specifically the 'history' post, which is linked in Rule #17). Direct any questions to staff. Please make sure to read this update.

UPDATES - 01/09/18 Update concerning clans and clanless cats claiming and challenging for territory. Read about that here. As our largest clan on site we're officially giving ThunderClan a starvation warning. No one is starving quite yet, but they have rumbling bellies and an empty fresh-kill pile more often than not. Get out hunting, and not just on your own territory, ThunderClan, or risk finding starvation and illness notifications in your PMs ;D

UPDATES - 01/02/18 Happy New Year! We have a lot going on on site in terms of clan meeting and exciting, drama-filled going ons. Three of our clans have meetings up, and while two are further along than the third they are still in need of reactions to either help wrap them up, or to help their leader in making her decision. Give them a look: WC, RC, & SC. Once some of these big plot threads wrap up you can expect our next site gathering to get underway.

UPDATES - 12/27/17 There has been a change in DitM's staffing team as Cheshire has had to step away to tackle that thing we call life. You can read about that here. The staff team wishes Cheshire all the best, and a huge thank you for all they've done for the site! In light of how busy we still are we've promoted Yazsh, who has been helping the staff team already with mod stuff and flash event posts, to a full member of the staff team. Be sure to give the ma warm welcome and have patience with them as they learn the ropes! With Cheshire leaving that means Palefeather's and Graystar's plots are at a stand still, but since they are all sorts of tied up into the future of the site staff will be taking on the roles for at least a short while to keep things moving smoothly. Please direct all those character's plot questions to us. Rest assured we'll be working with Cheshire if we have questions, and the sand box environment, to see these through! Have patience with staff as well as we figure out what threads need to be done and get a handle on how to best play these characters. Thank you!

UPDATES - 12/24/17 A few days later than the set date, all accounts in the inactive category have been deleted. If that's you, you're welcome to rejoin at any time; staff can always pull things from the archives for you if you would like to remake characters. Just be aware that you may need to change names or face claims if they have been used in your absence.

UPDATES - 12/21/17 A happy Winter Solstice! Our season on site has been changed to Leaf-Bare. The staff team wishes happy holidays for those celebrating!

UPDATES - 12/06/17 The activity check is over and the site has been aged! Those members who did not respond or check in with staff have been moved to the inactive category and will be deleted on 12/20. If you were moved to inactive, just message a staff member with links to the items you need replaced and the accounts you need moved. For those of you still with us, please check characters' ages and active threads so you can claim any new stats. Please also check mentors & apprentices in case you have gotten a new mentor/become a mentor! Finally, many of us need to update our bios, at the very least to reflect name, rank, and sometimes Clan changes. If I have to call people out by name I will ;).

UPDATES - 11/29/17 We have an activity check going on! Link is here. Members have until December 5th to post. Please speak to staff if you don't think you'll be able to post by then. We are doing it a bit differently this time around so please be sure to read the post completely.

UPDATES - 11/15/17 A big thank you for all those who took the time to audition and show interest in ShadowClan deputy. After discussion between Rainbow & staff we congratulate Gillyflowerthroat (Mink) on getting the position. As promised if you have questions or desire tips in preparation for our next open high rank position you can send staff a PM or DM.

UPDATES - 11/09/17 New skin! Staff is still making tweaks to this top table potion (the link colors and navigation link colors) and to staff/site tables, but otherwise please let staff know if you still see any lingering green colors. A deadline has been set for ShadowClan deputy: Tuesday Nov. 14th. If you'd like to try out please send your auditions in before then, and if you think you will need more time be sure to let staff know.

UPDATES - 11/04/17 Auditions for ShadowClan deputy are now open. Audition form can be found in our high rank info board and all auditions should be sent to the staff team + Rainbow. A deadline will be set at a later date.

UPDATES - 11/02/17 Katzen has stepped back from the site and her role as ShadowClan's leader to focus on her senior year of college. To fill members in on what happened ICly with Vulturestar Rainbow has helpfully written a small AU you can read here.

Beryllium’s tail was held high and cocked at the tip, swaying back and forth in rhythm to her swaying hips, as she picked a jaunty path up from the mines to the crest of the rugged hill that the clans called Mount Wren. She had no desire or plans to truly become a clan cat—hence the decision to keep her name—but evidently she was expected to do more than lounge and have food brought to her if she expected to stay. In name Beryllium was SkyClan, but she alone knew the truth: Beryllium was here to spy, learn, and perhaps cause mayhem where she could when the timing was right.

Her jaws stretched wide in a lazy, bored yawn. She drew it out, letting her sharp canines be exposed for as long as she could, and did her best to make eye contact with those around her when she finally allowed to mouth to click shut. She grinned a still toothy smile. ”Right.” She said turning to look at the space in front of them. ”Since I’m new here maybe one of you experts can explain just what it is we’re supposed to do.” They hadn’t yet reached the top of the hill; their pace was slowed only slightly by both the light layer of snow that had already accumulated, and the still-falling snow and wind. Leaf-fall was clearly coming to its end.

we're secretly out of control
406 words for @Beryllium & whoever else, with no notes
Hickoryhawk had been doing his best to stay off of claiming patrols since the formation of SkyClan. He’d avoided them when they were gathering as much as possible, and if someone explicitly sought him out for one, he’d make up some excuse to get away from it. He was aware that his fighting skills were subpar and didn’t want endanger anyone because he couldn’t defend himself. But he was aware that this pattern would have to come to an end at some point, and when this patrol had been being formed, he’d been unable to come up with a good excuse to stay behind. He’d been getting a bit of extra training from Hemlocktooth on the side, so he hoped at least he’d be able to do something if the patrol encountered some trouble.

Though he didn’t know her all that well, Hickoryhawk was a bit nervous of Beryllium and her choice to keep her birth name. There had been a few that had done that when Sequoiastar had been giving out names, and the Bengal wasn’t all that sure what to think of it. He had viewed the ceremony as symbolic of them entering a new chapter in their respective lives, and was confused as to why some cats still held onto the past. He himself had been eager to shed the name that his mother had given him with, and in doing so shed all relations he had with his past family – other than Hemlocktooth of course. So as he followed Beryllium, Hickoryhawk found his eyes lingering on her pelt when he was certain she wasn’t looking, curiosity and nerves sparking from his own.

The sudden yawn from the she-cat when they paused startled Hickoryhawk, even moreso when the tortie met his eyes. He returned her small smile with a nervous one of his own, angling his ears when Beryllium began to speak. Resuming the increasingly slow pace, Hickoryhawk mulled over her question. Wait, had she not been on any of these patrols either?? “Um, I think we’re just supposed to go to the border, the top of the hill I think?, and then mark it as ours. And if we meet any opposition, uh, get them to leave?” He was going from vague memory and comments from other cats that had been on claiming patrols, and hoped to god that someone else would have more insight to offer before they reached their destination.

Unlike their friend, Hickoryhawk, Hemlocktooth was all too eager to be a part of any patrol- claiming, the regular “check the borders” variety, hunting, you name it. They were chomping at the bit to participate, contribute, and, prove their value. Besides, they lacked the nerves Hickoryhawk possessed to hold them back and make them worry. Hemlocktooth hardly worried about things like what might happen on a patrol until the things that might happen on a patrol were actually happening. And when they did happen, they were ready to take them on. They would bring down their full might on the danger and make it run away with its tail between its legs, crying for its mama. They didn’t worry, but sometimes they did fantasize.

They were downright delighted to have Hickoryhawk along with them on this patrol. Though they would usually be stuck closer to the front of the patrol- not fully taking the lead since they had discovered that older cats who were present generally took issue with that- this time they hung back with Hickoryhawk, reaching the top of Mount Wren alongside their friend and allowing Beryllium to take the lead. Their head and tail were held high. When Beryllium yawned leisurely and made direct eye contact with them, they were not intimidated. They only smiled, not thinking that so unusual. They scuffed their paws through the snow a bit and lashed their tail, impatient with the slow pace.

Hemlocktooth was openly surprised when Beryllium asked what they were supposed to do, assuming that either she would have been on a patrol like this before or that somebody would have explained it to her beforehand. “You don’t know?” they exclaimed, sincerely baffled in tone but unintentionally rude. “Yeah!” they agreed with Hickoryhawk’s explanation. “We go mark the border, and if anybody tries to stop us we fight them off! Show them the true might of SkyClan!” Grinning, Hemlocktooth bumped up against Hickoryhawk and mimed fighting off another cat with quick, jabbing movements of their forepaws in Beryllium’s direction. Wham, bam, pow!

"You need to get that fuzzy butt of yours out of your nest. We're going on a walk!"

Scarletwolf had made the declaration quite loudly, and apologized to @Lionfeather seconds later for sounding too bossy. It was a cute attempt at being a bit more strict, like Lionfeather was. That part of the buff molly was something Scarletwolf was always admiring from afar. She had a way with words and speaking her mind that was enthralling. Of course, her bluntness could sometimes get her in trouble with others- but Scarletwolf knew her friend meant well. Lionfeather had a heart of gold, after all.

The ginger tabby butted her shoulder against her partner's playfully, flashing her a smile. "That was payback for splashing me." She informed her friend with a curt nod of her head. She hadn't forgotten the adventure Sunheart, Lionfeather and herself had a few moons back. They were like children all over again- splashing away in the water and forgetting their problems (mostly). Scarletwolf had her own concerns for Lionfeather. Her daughter had returned, yes, but there was always that looming feeling that something was wrong she wasn't telling her about.

Scarletwolf debated questioning her when foreign scents and unfamiliar voices grabbed her attention.

Her gut reaction was to assume it was Thunderclanners again and she bit back the urge to sigh in frustration. To her surprise, it was a trio of cats who smelled... nothing like any of the other clans. A scent as foreign as that could only belong to Skyclan. Scarletwolf had no problems with their formation, but she did have problems with them waltzing onto Riverclan's territory and boasting about reclaiming it or something like that. The ginger molly looked to her partner and gestured for her to follow.

Her approach wasn't stealthy at all considering the crunch of snow beneath her paws as she bounded towards the Skyclanners slowly trekking their way up the side of the hill. Scarletwolf stuck out like a sore thumb against the white terrain. As her name implied, she was ginger- a stunningly bright ginger. She lifted her tail and waved it to and fro in the air, allowing her lips to pull into a friendly (yet strained) smile.

"Are you three lost?" She called out, hopefully closing the space between her and the Skyclanners. "Perhaps you're mistaken, but you've crossed over onto Riverclan's territory." She continued, coming to a halt and surveying the cats gathered.

L
ionfeather hadn't protested for more than appearances sake as Scarletwolf dragged her out of camp. It would be nice to have the opportunity away from camp that didn't involve Sunheart trying to give her therapy, training Peregrinepaw, or otherwise being prodded with questions about her daughter and everything else going on in Lionfeather's life. Scarletwolf was airier and easier to be around, with her fun and let-loose nature. It rivaled Lionfeather's own strictness but she didn't think it was bad. Not most days anyhow. The golden she-cat still made sure to grumble as she was herded out of camp, but her plumed tail flicked happily.

The female swayed as Scarletwolf butted her. She snorted and made a half-hearted attempted to cuff the molly's ear. "You needed a bath," she protested with a flutter of her eyes. With a low laugh Lionfeather bounded a few paces ahead, keen to avoid further retribution. Her companion was hot on her tail though and the two appeared to falter at the same time, likely detecting the same foreign scent. Lionfeather's fur rippled as she detected the strange scent of Skyclan, dangerously close to the border. Her lips twitched with the urge to bare her fangs, but she refrained for the moment. There was no proof as of yet that Skyclan were up to anything fishy. She shared a glance with Scarletwolf, and knowing they were of the same mind, headed for the border together.

Lionfeather wanted to sigh at Scarletwolf's friendly introduction, especially at the sight of three Skyclan individuals. Their numbers made the already edgy she-cat downright hostile. Her tail lashed but she didn't interrupt her companion's greeting. Scarletwolf being able to give them the benefit of the doubt, but Lionfeather ensured she placed her thickly-furred body beside her friend so the Skyclanner's knew that everything wasn't all warm and fuzzy. The warrior turned her judging gaze to the eldest looking of the group. "We'd be more than happy to show you the way home."

Beryl merely smiled at her two tag-a-longs. She was the oldest of them, but far from a tried and true patrol leader; she was, in fact, still learning a great deal about the clans, and their traditions, as she hadn’t much cared to listen the first time she was taught them. ”I’m still getting the hang of this clan cat stuff.” She said lightly. ”But you two are adorable. So eager, so loyal, such troopers!” She laughed to herself as she spun in a slow, lazy circle to examine the top of the hill. It wasn’t very impressive, but as it was on SkyClan’s historic territory, and attached to much of what the clan already laid claim to, she could see why Sequoiastar wanted it.

”You two can show me how it’s done since you seem to be full of piss and vinegar and I’ll keep watch.” She didn’t want to do more work than she had to, and even though she saw the two interlopers she didn’t say anything until they were upon them and chittering in their direction like a couple of squirrels. She could have ignored them, or handled the situation in one of many different ways, but annoyance was quick to blossom in her chest. ”Aren’t you two just a couple of nobs-“ She began, but bit back the rest and glanced to Hickoryhawk and Hemlocktooth.

”Yes we’re just lost.” She amended with an earnest grin despite her previous statement. ”We’ll be right on our way so you two can just turn your tails and be on yours as well.” She suggested. She was hopeful they’d be stupid enough to just do it, but one of her companions might mention the fact SkyClan owned the mines beneath the hill so why not the hill as well—or whatever lines the clan fed their competition about SkyClan, their territory, honor, and works. She flicked her tail and began grooming her face with a paw.

we're secretly out of control
334 words for @Beryllium, @HEMLOCKTOOTH, @Scarletwolf, @Lionfeather, with no notes
It was nice, comforting, to have Hemlocktooth along on this patrol with him, and walking beside the lighter warrior was always a treat. However, Hickoryhawk did frown slightly at the (probably unintentional) rudeness of his friend’s voice when they tacked an explanation onto his own response to Beryllium. The sudden bump on his shoulder was unexpected, but the frown was replaced with a nervous smile as Hickoryhawk tried to mimic Hemlocktooth’s movements, with moderate success! If they ran into a rival patrol, he was sure they’d be sorry that they messed with this group of cats! Hickoryhawk wasn’t exactly sure what piss and vinegar meant, but he was sure it was a good thing to be full of! Maybe.

That thought immediately died where it’d been formed when just that, a rival patrol, appeared over the lip of the hill. The crunch of the snow beneath their paws had alerted Hickoryhawk that they were there before they could be seen, but the Bengal had kind of hoped that it was just like, a really heavy rabbit or something. He recognized one of the two, Scarletwolf he thought her name was, and hoped that she'd be as friendly now as she had been when he met her on the border a few days ago. His eyes widened as Beryllium made to insult the two cats, but she stopped herself. Thank god.

However, the next words to come out of his companion’s mouth confused him slightly. They weren’t lost, and what would Beryllium gain from lying to them? No doubt the two RiverClanners would see though that frail lie? But… looking at the other two cats, it was clear that even with Hemlocktooth’s confidence and Beryllium’s experience, they were probably outmatched. A fight wasn’t really something that they could afford, probably. So Hickoryhawk nodded along with Beryllium’s statement. “Just looking for the way back to camp!” He replied, trying to add an air-y sound to his voice as he stepped forward, and also trying to stop the quivering of his legs. “Must’a gotten turned around back there by that one tree!” God he sure hoped that these RiverClan cats were dumber than they looked.

Hemlocktooth threw Beryllium a grin with an uncertain edge. They weren't sure how they felt about being called adorable by a cat as old as her, but everything else she said was great in their book. Eager and loyal! That was them! Hemlocktooth and Hickoryhawk! Hemlocktooth didn't mind that Beryllium was so keen on having the two of them show her how it was done, because they liked to be in charge.

They heard the two RiverClanners making their way through the snow before they spotted them. Hemlocktooth wasn't frightened by the small patrol. It would be easier to mark the border and simply be on their way if there weren't two RiverClan warriors there questioning them, but they were eager to put their claws and teeth to use if need be. Enthusiasm for the job made them stand at attention and their whiskers quiver. Their pale eyes were wide and alert. The redder of the two RiverClanners seemed friendly, but the pale one's tail lashed and she had a gruff look on her face. Hemlocktooth's tail lashed in response and they shuffled in place.

Though not as alarmed as Hickoyhawk seemed to be about it, Hemlocktooth was glad that Beryllium hadn't completed the insult she had started making. Though they were eager to prove themselves in battle, any battle, they were not keen on insults. They were alarmed, though, when Beryllium lied, and Hickoryhawk went along with it!

For a second after Hickoryhawk commented on getting turned around at the last tree, Hemlocktooth was still and silent, an unusual state for them to be in. But it didn't last long. Because this was not why they had been sent out here! They had not come out here to lie and stick their tails between their legs and hope that their rivals had less in their heads than they did! They had literally just been talking about how this was supposed to be done! And, Beryllium didn't know how to do this, she said it herself, so they didn't know why Hickoryhawk was going along with such nonsense. They had honestly expected better from their friend.

"We are not lost," Hemlocktooth announced, with a firm look on their face. "The mines below Mount Wren belong to SkyClan, Mount Wren will too. We are here to lay down the new scent markers. You got a problem with that?" The three of them outnumbered the RiverClanners. They didn't know why Beryllium and Hickoryhawk felt it necessary to lie, when it would be an easy fight, if the RiverClanners chose violence. Beryllium would sooner make SkyClan look mousebrained than fight?

"I can wash myself just fine, thank you!" Scarletwolf insisted with a faux huff of offense as she trotted after her friend. Their playful banter quickly came to an end when the three Skyclanners they were faced with became the center of attention. @Lionfeather was quick to dampen Scarletwolf's friendly introduction with some well-needed aggression. Right off the bat, the oldest of the group began to state that they were lost, and the ginger molly's smile faltered. It was unfortunate for the tortie, but Scarletwolf was simply friendly- not stupid. "If you are lost, we can escort you back to your side of the border in no time." Scarletwolf said with a wider smile, her eyes briefly flitting towards @Hickoryhawk. She'd met him before, he was a pleasant fellow- even if he was a bit nervous.

Given her stance, it was clear she wasn't too keen on simply turning her back on the Skyclanners. She saw no problem with them establishing themselves as a clan, but she did find some problems with lying. It simply wasn't polite! The ginger molly's attention soon turned towards the last of the pair, who outed them for their own lies with ease. The pale cat's words were aggressive and didn't settle well with the ginger she-cat. She cast Lionfeather a glance and let her own muscles tense.

"Mount Wren belongs to Riverclan, and I do have a problem with you three lying and trying to take territory beneath our noses." Scarletwolf said simply, her own eyes narrowing. She didn't like to resort to violence, but she had a feeling there was no avoiding this. "If you'd like this territory, I'm afraid you'll have to fight for it." She looked again to Hickoryhawk for a fleeting moment, briefly worried for her friend's well-being, but put that empathy aside.

Riverclan came before her friend from another clan. Leafbare was coming, and they needed as much territory and food as they could get. Though they were out numbered, Scarletwolf was certain her and Lionfeather could hold their own.

L
ionfeather didn't hide her derisive snort as the Skyclan cats tried to worm their way out of the situation. She'd almost consider believing their 'lost' story if not for the downright arrogant tone to their voices. When the silvery one outright rejected the lies of his clan-mates she turned a considering eye on him, though her expression was no less perturbed. "At least one of you has the balls of a warrior," she remarked crassly. "You want to be clan - act like clan. The land your after needs to be earned." She faced down the Skyclan patrol, lashing her tail. Scarletwolf's steady presence beside her was encouraging. They were both strong and experienced but facing down three Skyclanner's would be a challenge. Her paws tingled with excitement at the prospect.

"Turn back," she warned, unsheathing her claws. "Leafbare isn't the time for bloodshed." She wasn't the most charismatic of individuals and hardly cared to be, so Lionfeather didn't believe they'd actually heed her words. She wouldn't, if she were in their position. Leafbare was a time of hunger and desperation. She could imagine a clan facing their first hard season together would panic and lash out to keep themselves safe and fed. It made them dangerous, and Lionfeather wary as she scoped out the targets. The youngest looking seemed the most keen to fight - wasn't that always the way? The other two, what with their charade, weren't as eager apparently. That made Lionfeather hopeful. Either they recognized the foolishness of going into battle during leafbare, or were just wary about facing two hardened warriors. Either way she hoped their smarts would keep the situation from escalating into a battle, neither clan could truly afford it. But, who didn't love a good row now and then?

With her claws still unsheathed Lionfeather waited for the Skyclan cats to make the first move. She had ever desire to kick the lying tortoiseshell in the face but kept herself in check. Scarletwolf was still in the warning stages, much to Lionfeather's disappointment. She was forcing herself to fall in line with her gentler friend's decisions this go around, she just hoped it didn't come back to bite her later.

While not an eager participant in clan duties Beryllium would have been more than willing to let the two younger warriors mark the hill while she watched, and then be on their merry way. It would have been sufficient enough to call their tasked duty—claiming the hill for their clan’s own—completed, and Beryllium would be able to say she helped, contributed, and all that special jazz before returning to her ideal state of laying around camp, but no, Hemlocktooth just had to be all moral and honest and good. They could have waited until the RiverClanners left and then claimed the territory right under their nose, but now they no doubt had to fight. Beryllium wasn’t opposed to fighting, but she was opposed to doing more work for a task than what was absolutely necessary. The tortoiseshell made a point to turn her head dramatically to stare at them. Were they for real? Were they trying to get them all killed, or just trying to make two of their clan mates look like obviously stupid liars.

With a sigh the older cat turned back to the RiverClanners. She could be charming and manipulative under the right circumstances, but even she was at a loss as to how to salvage this one. ”I would think wits would make a warrior, just as much as if not more than, claws do. I hope not all your kin are so brutish in their thoughts.” Well so much for salvaging. ”Out-witting your opponent would be earning it.” She added with a sneer to the pointed she-cat. She was still against having to dirty her claws for a clan she didn’t trust nor like, but these RiverClanners did so get under her skin. Now it was a matter of her pride.

”Ahhh, no I think we’ll stick around. I do fancy the view and did drag myself all the way up here, after all.” She announced. If they were truly in the mindset that leaf-bare wasn’t the time for bloodshed then they could leave. Beryllium, however, would ready herself for the expected attack.

we're secretly out of control
345 words for @Beryllium, @HEMLOCKTOOTH, @Scarletwolf, @Lionfeather, with no notes
Visibly flinching when Hemlocktooth spoke, Hickoryhawk sent his companion an incurious look. Did they really not get what he and Beryllium had been doing? The Bengal flattened his ears and shot Hemlocktooth a look, his mouth curved down in a frown. He would have been more than happy to take Scarletwolf’s offer of ‘escorting them back’, and then taking the cowards way out and waiting until the RiverClanners were gone before marking the border anyway. He had met Scarletwolf on the border once before, and she had been a kind individual. He felt kind of bad that he was willing to manipulate whatever trust she had in him, but saving his own hide (and by extension, his Clanmate’s) took priority.

It was clear though, that that wasn’t going to happen. Hemlocktooth’s words had blown whatever frail cover that they had, and now the RiverClan cats were likely itching for a fight, if their words were anything to go by. And Beryllium’s choice of words was clearly not helping things. Sagging his shoulders, Hickoryhawk sent his Clanmates one last look of helplessness before fixing his green gaze on the two RiverClan cats. “SkyClan needs this territory, and if you’re sincere about thinking that Leafbare isn’t time for bloodshed, wouldn’t it be easier to just let us have it?” They were a growing Clan, with kits among them! And while he was sure that RiverClan thought that they needed it every bit as much as SkyClan, Hickoryhawk hoped that he could appeal to their empathetic side, however hopeless it may be.

Despite his attempt to calm the RiverClan cats into letting them have this territory, Hickoryhawk fought against every instinct in his body to run away. He straightened his legs and dug his claws into the frozen earth, more to steel himself for what was to come than pose a threat. He wouldn’t let his worries about his fighting skills (or rather lack thereof) talk him into fleeing. He would stand to protect the territory that, in his mind, SkyClan deserved. That’s what a warrior did, right?

Hemlocktooth had earned themself some interesting looks from their patrol companions. They glanced to the side at Hickoryhawk and Beryllium but they showed no remorse and only flicked their ears at them. They did not for a second step down and second guess their decision to go against the underhanded manipulation route. They turned their narrowed green eyes back to the pair of RiverClanners and flattened their ears to their head, tail still lashing.

The words of the harsher RiverClanner pleased Hemlocktooth, but that they would be careful not to boast about. The two of them, they were on the same page. She unsheathed her claws as she encouraged them to turn back. There was tension in the air but nobody made a move, yet. In response, Hemlocktooth unsheathed their claws, kneading them into the stiff ground underfoot. Their heart beat a million miles a minute. They were not the kind of cat to be filled with fear at the idea of a simple fight. In fact, it was exhilarating! They were eager to set claw in enemy flesh and prove their worth as a part of SkyClan.

As eager as they were to prove themself through violent, they refrained from lashing out first and simply fidgeted in place while Hickoryhawk spoke. This time, at least, Hickoryhawk wasn’t lying through his teeth and following Beyllium’s cowardly lead. Perhaps they could convince the two RiverClanners to turn back and leave them be. Admittedly Hemlocktooth would be a tad bit disappointed, but it would still be an honest, true victory. One they could bring back to Sequoiastar without the inclusion of lies and trickery.

“Yes, just let us have it, and we can all leave here unharmed,” Hemlocktooth added.

288 words for @Hickoryhawk, @Beryllium, @Scarletwolf, and @Lionfeather

ice age, heat wave
can't complain, if the world's at large, why should I remain? Walked away to another planet, gonna find another place, maybe one I can stand. I move on to another day, to a whole new town with a whole new way.

@Lionfeather's harsher words made Scarletwolf flinch just slightly as she spoke. She had a terrible feeling the Skyclanners wouldn't be leaving without a proper fight, which understandably upset the ginger molly. The empathetic side of her wanted to just let them have the territory and avoid bloodshed, but she reminded herself Chamomilewhisker's kittens were at stake here. Riverclan was her home. As friendly as she was to @Hickoryhawk, her own clan mattered more than friends. She cast the bengal a regretful smile. "I'm very sorry," She said with a frown before her attention moved towards @HEMLOCKTOOTH. "We need this territory as well."

She gave a twitch of her tail and hoped to catch Lionfeather's eye. She jerked her head briefly in @Beryllium's direction, knowing deep down inside her friend was probably eager to fight with the mouthier of the bunch. Scarletwolf turned instead towards Hemlocktooth and sent herself hurtling in the younger cat's direction, her lips drawn back into a snarl. She attempted to duck her head down and throw her weight at the younger cat with the intention of knocking them off balance so she could grab the upper-hand.

If he was knocked over, Scarletwolf would quickly try and move to take the upper hand. She attempted to pin the other cat down by the shoulders, planting her own paws firmly atop Hemlocktooth. She didn't want to shed too much blood- she simply wanted to bring the cat to the ground and keep him there. She kept herself tensed and ready for retaliation from Hickoryhawk, or perhaps even Beryllium if the tortie decided to go at her.

i'll explain the infinite
